Position Description
This unique position involves providing comprehensive care to pregnant women in the Obstetrics unit while also contributing to Medical-Surgical nursing duties. The Obstetrics Nurse will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being of both mothers and newborns during childbirth and will also provide skilled nursing care in a Med-Surg setting.
Responsibilities:
Obstetrics Nursing:
* Provide antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care to pregnant women in collaboration with healthcare providers.
* Conduct thorough assessments, monitor fetal well-being, and develop individualized care plans.
* Assist and support women during labor and childbirth, administering medications and pain relief measures as needed.
* Conduct postpartum assessments and provide education on breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery.
* Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
* Educate expectant mothers on prenatal care, nutrition, and family planning.
* Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, documenting assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
* Respond to obstetric emergencies and assist in emergency procedures as required.
Med-Surg Nursing:
* Provide direct patient care in the Med-Surg unit, assessing and managing a variety of medical conditions.
* Administer medications, treatments, and interventions according to physician orders.
* Monitor and assess patients’ responses to medical-surgical interventions.
* Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
* Educate patients and families on medical conditions, treatments, and self-care.
* Document all aspects of patient care accurately and in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
* Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
* Experience or certification in Obstetric Nursing is preferred.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work effectively in both Obstetrics and Medical-Surgical nursing settings.
* Knowledge of obstetric and medical-surgical care practices.
* Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Requirements:
* Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is preferred.
* Certification in Inpatient Obstetric Nursing (RNC-OB) is a plus.
* Minimum [X] years of experience in Obstetric Nursing and Medical-Surgical Nursing.
* CPR and ACLS certifications required.
