Wausau/Weston is the principal city and transportation hub of northern and central Wisconsin. Some also call it the “gateway to Wisconsin’s Northwoods.” Surrounded by woods, lakes and hills, this area enjoys the fortunate combination of big-city amenities with the look, feel and activities of rural Wisconsin. The greater Wausau area offers recreational options in all four seasons. During the warmer months, biking, camping and fishing are among many people’s favorites. When the snow falls, people flock to one of the state’s premier downhill skiing destinations: Granite Peak Ski Area located in Rib Mountain State Park. The area has public school districts that consistently are recognized as instructional leaders in Wisconsin. Fun Fact: Wausau ranks among the top five safest small-size cities in the nation.
