Position Description

INTRODUCTION: Provide a full scope of general dental health services at Nimiipuu Health (NMPH), be responsible for examining, diagnosing, and treating commonly encountered dental diseases and dental health problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform examinations, make diagnosis and prescribe treatment plan for patients; recognize and refer patients for specialty treatment; document and address patient problems such as unusual sensitivity to drugs, low threshold to emotional and physical stress, communication difficulties and other physical or emotional problems.

Provide professional, courteous, comprehensive, preventative dental services, including but not limited to Operative Dentistry such as amalgam restorations on primary and permanent dentition, composite restorations on primary and permanent dentition, stainless steel crowns, sealants, fluoride treatments, space maintainers; Endodontics such as pulpotomies and pulpectomies, obturation on anterior and posterior teeth, retreatment of failed root canals; Prosthetics such as crowns, bridges, post and cores when indicated, veneers; Periodontics such as minor flap surgery and nonsurgical therapy; Orthodontic such as minor tooth movement using retainers; Oral Surgery such as simple extractions, surgical extractions with or without surgical flaps, replantation of avulsed teeth, stabilization of fractures.

Provide consultant services and exercise oversight for dental Purchased and Referred Care services in accordance with NMPH policies; authorize, obligate and justify the use of NMPH dental care funds as needed.

Assist in determining conditions, resources and policies essential for the delivery of quality dental service; coordinate or assist in in-service or community training, including senior outreach and Head Start screening; actively participate on interdisciplinary oral health care team.

May serve as Dental Department Supervisor in absence of the Dental Supervisor; serve on committees as directed by the Dental Supervisor.

Adheres to and promotes compliance with applicable laws, safety codes, HIPAA, CDC, Human Resource Manual, Vehicle Use Maintenance Manual, Finance Manual and department policies and procedures.

Must have a positive work history; responsible for maintaining a consistent and regular attendance record; maintain strict confidentiality; may be required to work during irregular work hours; position is non-shift specific (day, swing, or graveyard) and weekends, as needed, in response to a pandemic or declared emergency.

Pandemic or declared emergency duties as related and assigned.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Requires a DDS/DMD degree from an American Dental Association accredited dental school, with two (2) years of experience, preferably in general practice or completion of an AEGD or GPR program. Must have state licensure in good standing from any state. Must maintain licensure. Must possess the ability to work independently, have excellent communications skills, both oral and written, and have the ability to handle conflict and crisis in a professional manner. Must be computer literate and possess knowledge of basic computer applications software and basic office procedures. Requires a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured under the Tribe’s policy. Requires the ability to pass an extensive background check and pre-employment drug screening. Tribal/Indian Preference applies.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in a clinical setting. Requires standing, walking, sitting, bending and stooping for extended periods of time and traveling to field health clinics. May be required to lift up to 40 pounds. Will require protective gloves or other appropriate personal protective equipment for safety precautions. Common exposure to contagious and infectious diseases, body fluids radiation, flying debris, nitrous oxide gas, fumes and dust from dental laboratory materials, and intense blue light emissions. Potential exposure to unpredictable behavior from patients, families and visitors. Nimiipuu Health is a smoke-free and drug free workplace.

EMPLOYEE HEALTH: Will be required to maintain compliance with all Nimiipuu Employee Health requirements as indentified in the Infection Control Polies. Must maintain current CPR/BLS certification.

Compensation Range:

$100,000 +

Personnel Time Off:

7.5 hour per pay period: 1 – 3 years of service

9.5 hours per pay period: 4 – 15 years of service

11.5 hours per pay period: 15+ years of service

Part-Time employees are paid on a pro-rated basis. Available after 90-day Introductory Period.

Veterans we can count honorable service year for year.

Sick Leave: 4.5 hours per pay period. Part-Time employees are paid on a pro-rated basis.

Emergency Leave: Up to 5 days per calendar to attend funerals, memorials or to tend to the serious illness of immediate family.

Administrative Leave: Granted by the Executive Director in special circumstances.
