Position Description
Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) is an individual educated in the two disciplines of nursing and midwifery which possesses evidence of certification according to the requirements of the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
Nurse-Midwife provides care to essentially normal women and newborns, antepartally, intrapartally, postpartally and/or gynecologically. Midwifery practice at Alivio occurs within an integrated health care setting which provides for medical consultation, collaborative management and referral, and is in accord with the standard for nurse-midwifery practice as defined by the AMCB.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides patient care in a specified number of clinic sessions per week and takes calls for intrapartum patient care
Provides primary care in an ambulatory setting to women, including ordering and evaluation of diagnostic tests and management of minor complications
Provides comprehensive patient care through cooperation and coordination with other programs at Alivio (e.g., Healthy Moms/Healthy Kids, the Maternal Child and Breastfeeding Program, Nutritional Services, and the WIC Program, Title X, etc.)
Works cooperatively with other Certified Nurse-Midwives and Physicians for cross coverage of patients, both outpatient and inpatient, when appropriate
Provides inpatient obstetrical care for essentially healthy women including labor management, delivery of infant, repair of laceration/episiotomies and management of minor complications. Initiates emergency care as needed
Provides individualized client teaching and counseling utilizing the nurse-midwifery philosophy
Identifies deviations from normal and consults, co-manages or refers as appropriate
Participates in continuing education including the review of polices and procedures and program development
Mentors the development of bilingual bicultural women in the health professions, particularly nurse-midwifery
Participates in continuing education
Participates in committees as assigned
Assists with the training/orientation of new staff
May be asked to precept students in training (i.e. CNM, RN, APN, MD)
Performs other related duties as assigned
This position requires compliance with all of Alivio’s written standards, including its Standards of Conduct, Joint Commission standards, all policies and procedures and Corporate Compliance requirements. Compliance will be considered as part of the regular performance evaluation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages and supervises staff listed below, including hiring, training, evaluating and managing performance to meet departmental efficiency and performance measures in keeping with the Union Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Personnel Policies and Procedures and prevailing employment laws as appropriate.

OSHA Category 1 – Involves exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing with post-baccalaureate education in an accredited Nurse-Midwifery Program.
Certification or Licensure:
Illinois Professional Registered Nurse License and Advance Practice Nurse License. Certification by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (AMCB), Certificate Maintenance Program with the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB), DEA License, and Controlled Substance License: Delegated by Collaborating MD, current CPR/NPR certification
Experience:
Prior experience in community based health preferred.
Special Training:
Successful completion of a program in Nurse-Midwifery accredited by the AMCB.
Demonstrated Competencies:
Bilingual English/Spanish. Commitment to care of medically indigent in a community based health care setting
