Position Description
To provide direct and comprehensive primary, preventive and therapeutic medical optometric care to individuals across the spectrum of ages and development within a high-risk population in a responsible, respectful, and caring manner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Diagnose and treat a wide range of eye diseases as well as diagnose and facilitate the management of related systemic conditions.
Diagnose visual and ocular problems through external and internal physical examination of the eye and adnexa.
Treat visual disorders through prescription of corrective lenses (to include contact lenses), pharmacologic agents and vision training.
Utilization of laboratory and radiology services to evaluate ophthalmic conditions.
Receive referrals from other health care professionals for specialty consultation and continued management of ocular disease.
Coordinate medical eye care with other providers as appropriate.
Refer and coordinate contract health care for patients requiring medical, surgical, and/or diagnostic services outside WVHC.
Keep abreast of evidence-based changes in clinical optometry and ophthalmology so as to continually update and optimize patient care services within WVHC.
Gain proficiency in the use of mew biomedical devices and equipment in optometry and ophthalmology to ensure services provided are consistent with the standard of care accepted by the medical community at large.
Work to improve ocular health on a population basis including care coordination with other tribal agencies.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) accredited by the Council on Optometric
Advanced professional knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques of optometric clinical services.
Current license to practice optometry in a State, the District of Columbia or a territory is required.
Professional knowledge in the theory, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation protocols of optometric care across the spectrum of age and development.
