Gastroenterologist

Distinguishing Features of the Class: The Gastroenterologist is Eligible/Board Certified by the American Board of Gastroenterology. The incumbent provides direct patient care in the hospital and respective clinic/office and is an active member of the Hospital Medical staff. Works under the supervision of the Health System’s Medical Director.

Typical Work Activities:

 Provides direct patient care in Hospital’s GI clinic(s) including office visits, as expected per Hospital policy and applicable law.

 Provides medical supervision of nursing staff including RNs, LPNs, Medical Techs and Medical Assistants in the outpatient clinic.

 Provides emergency GI consult services on call for the Hospital and clinic as scheduled.

 Provides inpatient care as needed to patients seen in the Emergency Department while on call.

 Provides inpatient care as needed for Hospitalized patients of the provider.

 Properly document services on a timely basis for all patients seen on call, in the Hospital and in the clinic.

 Provides services to NYS Department of Corrections in the Hospital related clinic.

 Provides administrative duties as required.

 Serve on medical committees as appropriate.

On call requirements, during scheduled times, include:

 Access to cell phone and/or pager to maintain contact with Hospital Emergency Department, inpatient floors or Clinic.

 Respond to the Hospital’s Emergency Department within the parameters as set forth in the Medical Staff By-laws and Surgery standards.

 Have the capacity to respond and provide emergency services for Hospital inpatients, patients presenting to the Emergency Department, and patients being transferred from other area hospitals.

 Admit patients, accept patient transfer requests, and accept patients from the Emergency Department.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of the field of Gastroenterology; ability to utilize EMR, ability to supervise professional and other personnel; sound professional judgment; physical condition to be met with the Pre-employment Inquiry for this position through Workplace Health. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The Gastroenterologist will be a physician, M.D/ D.O. that is Board Certified or Board Eligible with a clear plan and requirement to become Board Certified within four years. The physician is required to meet the qualifications for admission to the medical staff at WCCHS and meet the credentialing requirements of insurance companies for which WCCHS is a participant.

Position will be a Schedule P employee, receiving benefits as identified on Schedule P. In addition, the position will be seeing patients in the surgical clinic as assigned, and call coverage for the hospital as assigned.

Pay: $600,000.00 per year
