Responsibilities:

The School-based Therapist will coordinate with school sites to understand the needs of their students and families, the schools’ systems and resources for supporting students, and the barriers to behavioral health care that this position can assist in supporting. The clinician’s primary responsibilities are to assess a student’s needs, support the student and family in getting connected to appropriate services, and follow-up to ensure that services were received. The overall goal of the program is to establish collaborative and responsive relationships between schools, families, and community providers that promote coordination of care.

Serve as a resource to the school sites in the CCBHC catchment area by providing mental health consultation, referral, and care coordination to address student behavioral and/or emotional needs.

Meet with local school representatives to understand their needs and identify ways in which the therapist can best assist in supporting the behavioral health needs of the school community

Foster collaboration amongst School Districts and Community Partners by providing information, referrals, and linkages social service and mental health agencies to address student and family needs

Provide support and consultation for student threat/risk assessments, including conducting suicide risk assessments, participating on threat assessment teams, developing safety/re-entry plans, and providing referrals and linkages to resources, as needed

Promote parent engagement in addressing the social and emotional needs of students

Maintain comprehensive knowledge of and facilitates the development of policies and practices related to suicide prevention and intervention

Conduct clinical assessments of students referred for determination of needed behavioral health services, providing linkages to local supports and services

Follow-up with families and schools to ensure that student was connected to appropriate services; assist in establishing care coordination between the school and provider(s)

Maintain current knowledge of available community resources relevant to population and how to access them as needed

Attend supervision, agency and team meetings as scheduled

Maintain detailed, accurate, and timely documentation in medical record

Enhance professional expertise through educational activities and trainings

Follow agency policies and standards for client rights and confidentiality, and ethical standards for profession

Other related duties, as assigned

Requirements:

Master’s degree in social work, mental health counseling, or marriage and family therapy and on an independent licensing track with the RI Department of Health

At least 2-years of clinical experience working with targeted population in a mental health setting; school-based experience a plus

Strong verbal communication and social relationship skills

Analytical skills necessary to evaluate clients’ mental health needs and to formulate and implement a treatment plan

Knowledge of human development and family systems issues

Advocacy and teaching skills

Valid driver’s license and use of car in order to perform the major functions of the job

Automobile liability insurance coverage for vehicle being used in accordance with Center requirements

Ability to work collaboratively as a team to coordinate care for clients with intensive behavioral health needs

Shift & Schedule: M-F 8:00-4:30

Location: Openings available in Johnston & Charlestown

Compensation: Compensation starts at $58,500 & is commensurate with experience
