Position Description

R.J. Blackley, an accredited State Psychiatric Hospital serving the eastern region of North Carolina, is recruiting qualified Psychiatrists for permanent full-time positions to work in an in-patient facility serving adult patients. Staff psychiatrists serve as team leaders for multi-disciplinary teams to ensure quality patient care/treatment. Responsibilities included within this opportunity are:

* Evaluation of patients upon admission and the development of comprehensive treatment plans
* Serving on medical staff committees,
* Completion of court documents,
* Documentation of patient progress in medical record,
* Education of patients/families, and the provision of educational groups for patients.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:

* Psychiatrist must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities in medicine and psychiatry
* Required to meet the standards set by psychiatrists practicing in the community according to APA guidelines.
* Requires sound psychopharmacological knowledge and therapeutic skills.
* Thorough knowledge of diagnostic classification according to DMS-IV. Ability to relate to clients with empathy and caring.
* Ability to work well with colleagues, staff members and administration
* Assist hospital administration in implementing the Joint Commission and CMS standards and hospital medical staff by-laws, rules and regulations.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Licensed to practice medicine in the State of North Carolina.

Management prefers: • Experience in inpatient setting with medical management of detoxification and professional knowledge of substance abuse disorder, treatment and recovery models and strategies. • Professional knowledge of Methadone and Buprenorphine. • Board certification • Demonstrated ability to supervise and guide work performance of psychiatric residents and fellows.

Mission Statement
To provide inpatient treatment, psychiatric stabilization and medical detoxification for individuals with substance abuse and other co-occurring mental health diagnoses.
