Position Description
JOB SUMMARY
The HIV Mobile Unit Counselor provides partner services and individual counseling/testing for patients who are at risk for HIV and/or living with an HIV positive diagnosis. The Counselor educates individuals on healthy lifestyle choices and behavior modification.
Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities:
* Confidential HIV counseling
* Rapid HIV testing Rapid-on-Rapid HIV positive test confirmation
* In charge of Rapid program supplies monitoring and files reports to the UMDNJ Rapid Program Result counseling
* Partner Services and Notification Assistance Program (NAP)
* Professional outreach services to community agencies
* Street-level outreach
* Community events organization and participation
* Monthly scheduling and reporting
* Represents Neighborhood Health Services Corporation (NHSC) at the State HIV Mobile Unit Task Force
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate
* NJ State Dept. of Health HIV Counselor Certification Program
* Human Subjects Study Certification
* Trainings on HIV Treatments, substance abuse, mental health, etc.
Experience:
* One year of experience working with HIV-positive population
* Demonstrated knowledge and skills in clinical services and group interaction
* Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
* Knowledge of resources and ability to research and develop resources for clients with HIV; possess and understand the needs of this patient population
* Develop and make appropriate referrals for clients
