Position Description

The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician (Cardiologist) to practice in our Specialty Care Service.**

The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center is in the active and thriving community of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, the “Gateway to the Ozarks.” Poplar Bluff has a population of 17,000, and cost of living in the area is among the lowest in the country. We are within a two-hour drive of several large cities and have a small airport. The area is quite scenic and outdoor recreational opportunities abound in nearby national and state parks and forests. Come, join our team! We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity available for a dedicated physician to join the Primary Care Service team at the Poplar Bluff, MO facility.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Duties include but are not limited to:

Salary:**
$310,000 – $400,000 per year**

Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay)

In addition, the cardiologist will diagnose, treat, and manage patients with cardiac diseases according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques. You will provide services such as outpatient examinations, consultation services related to cardiology, management of patients with current treatment regiment, and admission status as necessary.

You will be required to maintain BLS certification and ACLS. You will attend cardiology team meetings, Medicine Service meetings, and meetings with other medical center staff. You may be asked to serve on committees, participate in quality assurance programs, assist our facility to meet established performance measures in the area of cardiology, and such other duties as assigned by the Chief of Staff or the Director. You will perform chart reviews and coordinate with Hospitalists regarding patient care issues. You will be responsible to document patient care data in electronic medical records such as history and physical exams within 24 hours; encounters for outpatients; consult notes; and, enter new and renewal of prescriptions. Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized
Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment):This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Contract Buy Out Program: This position may be eligible for the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP), which authorizes VHA to buy out service contracts (Locum agreements, loan repayments, sign-on bonus contracts, Physician-owned practices) in exchange for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities for a period of obligated service (minimum 4 years).
