Position Description

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the CEO or Dental Director, performs professional dental services in the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients and performs related duties as assigned by the CEO or Dental Director.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

DUTIES PERFORMED:

* Examines patients accepted for dental treatment.
* Diagnoses dental disease for admitted patients; establishes the plan for treatment and prevention of dental disease.
* Provides treatment for diagnosed dental disease including:
* Preventive Dental Services to prevent diseases of the oral cavity and related structures. At a minimum, these services include basic dental screenings and recommendations for preventive intervention; oral hygiene instruction and related oral health education; and topical application of fluorides or the prescription of fluorides for systemic use when not available in the water supply.
* Services may include applications of sealants, and diagnostic screening for carries and periodontal diseases through the use of dental x-rays.
* Additional dental services to diagnose and treat disease, injury, or impairment in teeth and associated structures of the oral cavity and include any diagnostic x-rays or imaging. These services may include fillings and single unit crowns; non-surgical-endodontics, extractions, periodontal therapies, bridges or dentures.
* Complex dental services (e.g., oral surgery, surgical endodontics, orthodontics) are considered specialty services and may be referred out.
* Performs other clinical duties as assigned.
* Performs quality assurance duties as follows:
* Perform monthly peer reviews.
* Complete required documentation related to quality measures.
* Participate in morning huddles daily.
* Maintain accurate, legible, and complete patient records in EMR in the required time. Chart notes must be completed within 3 business days.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

* Thorough knowledge and ability in the art of dental examination, diagnosis, and treatment.
* Thorough knowledge of the principles of dental disease prevention.
* Considerable knowledge of the principles of dental health education.
* Considerable ability to deal tactfully and efficiently with patients and staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited dental school with a D.D.S., D.M.D., or equivalent degree and currently licensed to practice dentistry in the State of Pennsylvania. (No substitution for education or license requirements).
