Position Description

Our Health Center is seeking a dental hygienist to be part of our growing supportive dental team. Patient care is our top priority. The ideal candidate is someone who delivers high quality care and education to a diverse population. We are a 501(c) 3 federally qualified health center (FQHC). As such, you may qualify for the public health loan forgiveness program and the National Health Service Corp (NSHC) loan repayment program.

Responsibilities

* Provide routine prophylaxis and topical application to all eligible patients.
* Provide scaling when calculus is present.
* Provide root planning when tooth surface is rough.
* Remove overhangs of filling materials.
* Polish restorations.
* Sterilize dental instruments properly.
* May use local anesthetic for procedures when a licensed dentist is present.
* Chart all existing caries and restorations, missing teeth and prostheses.
* Indicate all pockets over 3mm.
* Perform and document a complete head and neck exam, including soft tissue pathology.
* Take necessary safety precautions to protect patient from unnecessary radiation.
* Provide chair-side instruction in plaque control and diet counseling.
* Bring to the attention of all patients, or their guardians, the benefits of fluorides in all forms (water fluoridation, systemic supplements, topical application, and dentifrice).

Qualifications

* An associate degree or higher in dental hygiene.
* A valid license to practice dental hygiene issued by the state of Kansas.
* Basic life support certification.
* Experience / knowledge / skills
* Demonstrate attention to detail.
* Good verbal and written communication skills
* A patient friendly personality.
* Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend instructions in English.
