Position Description

The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician (Gastroenterologist) to practice in our Specialty Care Service.**
**

The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center is in the active and thriving community of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, the “Gateway to the Ozarks.” Poplar Bluff has a population of 17,000, and cost of living in the area is among the lowest in the country. We are within a two-hour drive of several large cities and have a small airport. The area is quite scenic and outdoor recreational opportunities abound in nearby national and state parks and forests. Come, join our team! We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity available for a dedicated physician to join the Primary Care Service team at the Poplar Bluff, MO facility.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Duties include but are not limited to:

* Clinical duties include diagnosing, treating and managing patients referred for management of GI disorders including liver disease, Hepatitis C, and liver transplants based on standard and customary methods and techniques in both the outpatient and inpatient setting.

* Procedural duties include performing diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower endoscopy procedures, PEG placement, esophageal dilation.

* Responsible for administration and management of moderate/conscious sedation used during procedures.

* Responsible for completing patient encounters, inpatient and outpatient consults, notes, and correctly coding visits in accordance with coding guidelines.

* Demonstrates interpersonal skills that enhance the effectiveness and accomplishments of the service.

* Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills that are commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.

* The physician will report to the Associate Chief of Staff for Specialty Care and will be expected to cooperate with and participate in medical duties or functions related to quality of care, peer review, serving on facility committees and other performance improvement activities and other duties as assigned.

Salary

$350,000 – $400,000 per year

Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay)

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
