Position Description
Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Certified is responsible for providing patient care under the direction of the profession nurse, and within the scope of educational preparation, training, and experience for the Cherry County Hospital and Clinic.
Job Details:
Position: Full-Time (36 hours per week)
Hours: 36 hours/week or variable depending on shift
Compensation: $26.17- $30.42 per hour + sign-on bonus of $4,000 – $12,000 (based on experience)
Shift Differentials:
Sunday – Thursday Nights: $3.00/hour
Friday – Saturday Nights: $5.50/hour
Weekend Days: $2.50/hour

Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Assists with planning, providing, and evaluating patient care
Participates in development, implementation, and revision of nursing care plan
Assists with patient teaching, discharge planning, and rehabilitation according to the patient care plan
Observes, reports, and records the general physical and emotional signs and symptoms of the patient
May administer medication including oral, injections, and infuse acceptable Intravenous medications after the initial dose
Performs venipuncture procedure on a non-pediatric patients and begin select intravenous fluids, add same fluids to peripheral intravenous and continuous flow central line, and assist with blood transfusions
Performs nursing functions such as baths, treatments, vitals, dressing changes, specimen collection, pre and postpartum care, pre and postoperative care
Assists with evaluation of work performance of staff
Assists with training of new personnel
Participates in at least 50% of continuing education on a yearly basis
Attends monthly staff meetings
Observes, reports, records intravenous therapy response including condition of site
Reinserts, converts, and flushed peripheral, intermittent infusion devices on a pediatric patient
Insertions of nasogastric tube that is non-stylet guided
Assists in keeping nursing unit clean and tidy
Assists with admission and other paperwork
Uses the intercom system and answers the telephone
Assists with Quality Assurance review of charts
Ensures the confidentiality of patients’ medical, personal, and financial records is maintained
Knowledgeable of and committed to practicing Corporate Compliance policies and procedures
Complies with Cherry County Hospital personnel policies
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
Skills and Abilities Required
Factual knowledge of most disease processes and desired nursing care of these diseases
Knowledge of sterile techniques and procedures and ability to perform them
Knowledge of medication administration and reaction
Recognizes the proper channels of communication
Understands the legal aspect of nursing
Knowledge of policies and procedures of the hospital
Interest of continuous professional growth
Keeps abreast of new trends in nursing
Has a preference for working with the public and other staff
Possesses personal qualities, which enable maintenance of good interpersonal relationships and works well with people; examples of these are good judgment, understanding, loyalty, respect for the individual and empathy
Must be knowledgeable of state and federal confidentiality laws, including but not limited to HIPAA, and be familiar with and follow all policies, procedures and instructions regarding the privacy and security of protected health information applicable to the position
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Work is physically and emotionally demanding, involves lifting and positioning patients
Environment requires working in close proximity with others in a clean, favorable area
Physical demands require sitting for long periods of time, standing, and bending as required
Requires regular working hours with possibility of overtime
Dexterity is needed to operate equipment, telephone, intercom system and other tasks as required to meet patient care needs
Repetitive use of hands, arms, and eyes could cause strain
Must be agile, able to move carefully around patients and equipment with ease
Job involves the potential for exposure to hazardous material such as contaminated body fluids
Must possess the knowledge and insight to comply with universal precautions and hospital policies and procedures
Minimum Job Requirements
At least one-year of formal nursing education in a practical nursing program
Licensed to practice as a Practical Nurse in the state of Nebraska
Reports to Director of Nursing
