SVT Health & Wellness is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join our team. This position is based in Homer, Alaska but may require day travel to Seldovia or Anchor Point. Position Summary: Prepare patients for their office visit to include obtaining and documenting vital signs and medical history. Provide assistance and support to the professional health care provider. Perform lab duties as required. Cross-train with Office Manager and Patient Account Representatives for essential job functions. Essential Functions: * Understand and apply principles of aseptic technique and “Universal Precautions” for infection control * Maintain strict confidentiality for all clients and their families and health center information in compliance with HIPAA. Protect the security of all patient medical/ dental records to ensure that confidentiality is maintained following HIPAA and PPI regulations as outlined in SVTHW policy and procedures. * Prepare patient for examinations, procedures and treatments * Obtain chief complaint, basic screening tests and vital signs * Assist with examinations, procedures and treatments as required * Recognize and respond to emergencies * Coordinate patient care information with health care providers. Sends letters to patients with laboratory, radiology and procedure results as directed * Communicate effectively with patients and co-workers * Clean, stock and maintain patient care areas and laboratory * Clean, package, and sterilize supplies and instruments * Maintain clinical supply inventory and order clinical supplies * Collect and process laboratory specimens and CLIA waved diagnostic tests * Clean and maintain equipment. Cleaning duties as required to include: patient areas, lobby and laboratory * Perform requirement for OSHA and CLIA compliance such as refrigerator temperatures, laboratory quality assurance tests, autoclave spore tests, etc * Perform basic clerical functions. * Participate in orientation of new medical assistant staff * Assist in making patient referrals and patient follow-up as directed. Obtains medical records from legacy systems (Soap Ware) or outside providers such as ER notes as needed. Manages miscellaneous medical records such as: psychiatric visit notes from outside providers and medical records received for non-established patients. * Conduct patient education as directed * Be proficient with Competencies and Skillsets as outlined for work performed. * Complete basic radiology training. * Project a professional manner and image. Adhere to ethical principles. * Actively participate in one of the SVTHW committees as assigned by Management. This may require acting as Chair or Co-Chair of the assigned committee. Education Requirements: High School Diploma Minimum Experience: Prefer two (2) years of experience, however, will train the right person. Computer Skills: Proficient in Mac/PC. Ability to perform clinical computing requirements to include: electronic medical record (EMR), telepharmacy, telemedicine to include data entry, store and forward, digital and video photography, inventory control, ordering, email, internet, MS Excel and Word Certifications & Licenses: Prefered MA Certification or Community Health Aide Certification. Will consider LPN, EMT II or III. Phlebotomy Certification. CPR Certification and annual TB Provided by employer. Other Requirements: Basic understanding of anatomy and medical terminology. Experience in direct patient care in clinical setting with completion of skills competencies. Possess ability to work cooperatively and productively in a team environment and enjoy working in a health care setting. Willing to train in Radiology and Injectable Medications. Comply with ICWA requirement for fingerprinting and background check.
