National Certification Premium Pay – $0.50
Sign-On Bonus: $4,000
Medical Assistant Job Responsibilities:
* Schedules patients for clinic, procedural, or surgical appointments.
* Rooms patients, collects medical data, and documents for the appropriate visit and assists in the physical exam, as applicable.
* Follows the appropriate guidance to assist patients over the phone and in person, including vaccines, injections, and medical testing.
* Under the direction of Physician or Advanced Practice Clinician, administers vaccines and medications IV, PO, IM, SQ. Conducts EKG and Spirometry testing. Assists with suture removal and casting.
* Under the direction of Physician or Advanced Practice Clinician, administers various tests in CLIA-waived lab, including glucose tests, OGTT, INR, federal and non-federal drug screens, pregnancy tests, TB tests, among others.
* Acts as a patient advocate through effective communication with patients, family and other staff regarding the patient’s treatment, ordered tests, procedures, medications and hospitalizations.
* Utilizes computer systems and follows standards and guidelines for optimal clinic flow and patient care.
* Responsible for safety issues and utilization of resources to provide cost effective, quality care. Consistently follows clinic policies and procedures.
* Coordinates care for patients within the care and with outside entities, such as insurance, referrals, and other public and private health services.
* Assists stocking of medical and pharmaceutical supplies; notifies appropriate staff when inventories are low. Enters data for state-supplied childhood vaccine program.
* Consistently performs duties in accordance with scope of practice, licensure, and guidelines through the Washington Department of Health and Island Health policies. Employee will function at all times within guidelines established in the Island Health HIPAA Compliance Policies and Confidentiality Agreements.
* Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
* Clinical experience in an outpatient setting preferred.
* Must maintain certification and/or licensure as a Medical Assistant Certified or Registered issued by the Washington Department of Health.
* AAMA certification preferred
* Current BLS certification
* Casting and DME experience preferred
Work Environment:
The work of this position is performed inside, exposing the employee to indoor environmental conditions, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The employee may be exposed to dust, pollens, pollutants, fumes, communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common a health care environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands:
While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasionally bend, sit, stoop and stretch. The employee will need full range of body motion, including handling and lifting of patients, should have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and medical equipment. Normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports are required; specific vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
