Position Description
Job Summary:
– Review history, physical information, medications, procedure request, and
study protocol.
– Explain the procedure and orient the patient to the sleep center.
– Maintains knowledge of the various methods of oxygen delivery, including
the necessary equipment. Remains alert assesses possible side effects
to oxygen delivery.
– Follows departmental equipment sterilization procedures.
– Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper
functioning and adjust, if necessary.
– Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
– Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and
adjust, if necessary.
– Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
– Follow procedural protocols (such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test
(MSLT). Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies,
PAP and oxygen titration, etc.) to ensure collection of appropriate data.
– Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical
events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to
facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
– Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bilevel positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.).
– Performs all additional duties as assigned by the department director or
supervisor.
Skills/Educational Requirements:
– Certified Polysomnographic Technologist (CPSGT) required
– Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RSPGT) preferred
– Current Basic Life Support (BLS) credential required.
– Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred, or able to obtain within six (6) months of hire at AVRMC.
