Position Description

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm**

Duties**

The incumbent, Optometrist, will be assigned to the Surgical Service. Each optometrist will be established and maintain professional relationships within Medical Service, and with other services and facility management which result in improved patient care. The incumbent in this position reports to the Section Chief of Optometry.

AdministrativeResponsibilities :

Participates in and attends medical center committees as assigned by the Section Chief of Optometry and the Chief of Surgery.

Demonstrates commitment to high quality customer service, including specific measures identified as performance goal measures by the Medical Center.

Identifies individual professional learning needs and participates in formal programs, workshops, seminars, conferences, as well as self-directed learned and facility wide mandatory TMS training.

Actively participates in the Performance Improvement process of the medical center and/or assigned CBOC. Integrates pertinent aspects of the performance improvement program into his/her professional practice.

Clinical Responsibilities:

Demonstrates sound decision-making skills, both clinical and administrative, which bring credit to the profession and serve to enhance the distinctive and contributory for patient care

Facilitate the delivery of appropriate patient care in collaboration with other health professional, medical center staff, and management.

Participates in peer review process when requested.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Compensation:

Salary

$86,962 – $134,435 per year
