The Registered Nurse/Circulator provides professional nursing care for all age groups, including assessment, planning, and evaluation. Minimum Qualifications:
_Required_ :
* ADN
* Valid, unencumbered and Active MT RN License
* BLS certification
* ACLS certification
_Preferred_ :
* BSN certification
* PALS certification
* CNOR certification
Responsibilities
_Preoperative Duties_
* Review next day’s OR schedule to confirm supply, equipment, and physician preferences; prepare supplies and equipment.
* Ensure patient charts are complete (lab, x-ray, consent, history & physical, allergies).
* Conduct pre-op assessment and explain procedures/treatments to patient and family, including post-op expectations.
* Position patient, prep operative site, confirm procedure with surgical team, and assist with patient transfer to operating table.
_Patient Safety & Care_
* Ensure patient safety and comfort during the peri-operative period.
* Perform nursing interventions, administer medications, and provide conscious sedation per protocols.
* Observe and report patient conditions, reactions to treatments, and drugs to supervisor/physician.
* Respond to life-saving situations following nursing standards and protocols.
* Apply aseptic principles in all tasks.
_Surgical Support & Infection Control_
* Handle specimens according to protocol.
* Perform surgical counts (sponges, sharps, instruments) and document care in the medical record.
* Assist in OR turnover and cleanup, dispose of used supplies and sharps properly.
* Open sterile packs and supplies, ensuring adherence to sterile technique.
* Monitor infection control, ensure aseptic technique, and maintain a clean surgical environment.
_Documentation & Communication_
* Document treatments and interventions in the EMR or downtime procedures.
* Assist anesthesia and surgeon as needed.
* Participate in daily huddles and monthly department meetings.
* Quality Improvement & Staff Development
* Participate in Quality & Process Improvement initiatives.
* Precept new staff and orient travelers as needed.
* Contribute to department goals, RTPS, and AIDET practices for patient care.
Physical Requirements:
Medium – Lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs.

_Environmental Conditions: _
Normal sterile surgical environment with potential exposure to infections, communicable diseases, blood, body fluids, electrical equipment, and chemicals. Standard precautions must be followed.
