Job Summary and Qualifications
# The expert practice of the Surgical Services Coordinator provides for
the daily operations and maintenance of specific service lines. This position
is essential in coordinating services as part of an interdisciplinary team of
caregivers. The RN collaborates with all other healthcare disciplines to
achieve successful execution of the patient’s plan-of-care in accordance with
the Nurse Practice Act. Nursing job duties are to meet the Nurse Practice Act,
Title 22, The Joint Commission and the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care and
the Plan for Provision of Care to Patients, and other regulatory requirements.
Operational responsibilities include the coordination of staff education,
outcome management, physician outreach, customer service, revenue integrity,
and capital budgets. Is required to take call as needed by the department and
completes other duties as assigned.
· Complies with hospital/departmental policies and procedures, i.e.,
attendance, mandatory education, safety, infection control, etc.
· Respects patient’s rights by maintaining patient privacy, dignity, and
confidentiality.
· Can recognize and respond appropriately in an emergency situation.
· Demonstrates ICARE standards at all times.
· Attends unit specific education sessions.
· Attends 80% of all mandatory meetings and in-services.
· Reading and reviewing emails and other department communication.
· Maintains, directs, and evaluates the activities impacting the progress of
the service line; maintains close working relationship with the Director of
Perioperative Services regarding mission, development, and growth of the
program.
· Operates in both an Administrative and Clinical capacity
· Maintains expert knowledge of service specialty (procedures, equipment,
supplies, surgeon preference).
· Establishes / Maintains direct, collaborative, working relationship with
specialty surgeons.
· Facilitates the flow of patient care services.
· Serves as a patient advocate. Assesses, evaluates, and problem-solves
operational processes to ensure quality care is delivered with efficiency,
congeniality and dignity.
· Works cooperatively with nursing services and ancillary departments to
provide orientation material for all staff new to the service line and
provides for continuing staff education.
· Assesses the capital and operational needs of the program and communicates
those needs appropriately. Assists in the identification of cost-effective
approaches.
· Creates and priorities capital list for yearly budget review. Obtains quotes
from vendors to submit to Director.
· Works closely with the Director of Perioperative Services to evaluate and
address quality care issues.
· Works closely with Director of Perioperative Services to identify
reimbursement issues and develop of strategies to address these issues.
· Attends and participates in health care system committees and department
staff meetings as requested.
· Collaborates with OR staff and Surgeons to maximize operational efficiencies
· Communicates with vendors to ensure required supplies and equipment are
available for procedures.
· Demonstrates accountability to metrics expectations including turnover
times, first case on time starts and volume growth.
· Facilitates feedback from surgeons and collaborates with management to
implement process improvements.
· Demonstrates effective working knowledge of equipment used in work area.
· Demonstrates effective guest relations with internal and external customers.
· Demonstrates knowledge of Meditech and general computer skills.
· Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information.
· Participates in budget control by using only those supplies necessary within
the work area.
· Demonstrate an understanding of HCA’s and Rose Medical Center’s “Patient
First” safety initiatives through strict compliance to all safety protocols
and procedures.
· Works autonomously
· Sets priorities and makes independent decisions of a complex nature
· Adheres to ICARE standards at all times
What qualifications you will need:

* Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse, or current active multistate Registered Nurse license.
- Current BLS Certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of Operating Room experience preferred. Previous experience with specialty service line coordination and development preferred.
- Must maintain current knowledge of the service line and how to work within a system to deliver multiple components of high-level comprehensive care. Ability to communicate effectively to provide patient and staff education in an organized and understandable manner. Ability to organize, prioritize and manage time efficiently. Ability to adapt quickly and positively to changes in work methods, information needs and restructuring in the delivery of health care services. Must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and Rose Medical Center. Comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures, techniques, Standards of Care, instrumentation, equipment, and supplies as they directly correlate to the specialty.
