Job Summary and Qualifications

The Pathologist Lead is responsible for the overall operation of the
pathology lab. Primary responsibility is with the accurate and timely
performance of pathology procedures. Population served: Infant, Pediatric,
Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric. Performs other duties as assigned or
necessary.
1.| Oversees and performs high quality tissue processing, slide preparation,
staining, tissue embedding, block cutting, and preparation of cytology
specimens and special stains.
2.| Assists pathologists or clinician with frozen sections and fine needle
aspirations as needed.
3.| Writes and reviews process, method, and equipment policies and procedures
following regulatory and best practice
guidelines. Assures policy compliance.
4.| Performs high level maintenance of department equipment and ensures proper
equipment functions before use.
5.| Receives specimens from the operating room, signs for the tissue,
maintains a log book, and assist the pathologist
grossing in the specimens. Responsible for storage and discarding specimens in
45 days.
6.| Oversees and performs all related pathology computer activities. Also
makes pathology charges, manually and in the computer.
7.| Oversees the receiving of specimens from the operating room, signs for the
tissue, maintains a log book, and
grossing of specimens.
8.| Oversees tissue decalcification. Capable of determining end point and
getting specimens processed in a timely manner.
9.| Interprets and troubleshoots quality control trends. Directs
troubleshooting efforts and assesses corrective actions/preventive actions.
10.| Files and stores slides and paraffin blocks for accurately, easy
retrievability, and proper storage times.
11.| Trains other employees and students in the histology area, prepares
training plans, and establishes competency of others.
12.| Responsible for department in absence of Pathology Supervisor or
Laboratory Director.
13.| Maintains an effective and efficient inventory system.
14.| Maintains quality and productivity standards.
15.| Displays advanced knowledge of histology and prepares continuing
education activities.
16.| Provides neat, legible, and organized records.
17.| Takes on central role during inspections and audits.
18.| Reflects HCA values and it ethical and compliance principles in his/her
daily activities (Code of Conduct).

What qualifications you will need:
- Histotechnician Certification and a Minimum Four Years of Experience
- Bachelors Degree, or Associate Degree, or Certificate
