Position Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for completing the patient registration process for dental services by collecting demographic information, determining appropriate fees and collection of payment. Function as liaison between dental students and patients.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School graduate or equivalent.

Experience:

1. Two (2) years’ experience in a health care setting or related field; dental experience strongly preferred
2. Two (2) years’ experience in customer service.

Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

1. Good computer skills including the use of word processing and e-mail software.
2. Knowledge of Third Party Reimbursement required.
3. Ability to accurately register and interview clients.
4. Ability to read and interpret materials.
5. Ability to use initiative; be detail oriented, and flexible.
6. Good oral and written communication, customer service, organizational and mathematical skills.
7. Ability to use a 10 key calculator and credit card machine.
8. Capable of preparing daily bank deposits.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

_Essential Functions_

1. Interview patients to document necessary demographic information
2. Review appreciate policies and regulations such as HIPAA with the patients
3. For uninsured/self-pay patients, determine fees based on sliding fee scale and collect fees due.
4. Verify and document third party coverage; collect copays due.
5. Maintain appropriate information in patients’ chart as needed.
6. Prepare daily deposits and reconcile tally sheets.
7. Refer patients to appropriate resources to apply for alternative methods of funding.
8. Use electronic schedule to notify clinic when patient is ready to be taken back.
9. Review patient check out documents and schedule follow-up appointments.
10. Act as a liaison between the dental students and their family of patient: contacting patients for additional appointments, etc.
11. Handles incoming patient calls for dental students, specialists, other dental providers.
12. Make every effort to fill broken or cancelled appointments in a timely manner, based on payer mix.
13. Confirm all appointments, confirm Medicaid, denoting the ME codes, verify insurance and sliding fee scale status in advance and inform patients of their cost of care.
14. Record all no shows, cancellations and late arrivals.
15. Pull end of the day reports to ensure that all encounters are closed and clinical notes are entered.
16. Patients must be contacted and tasks complete every day.
17. Phone tasks must be completed daily.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.

_Marginal Functions_

1. Assist with educating staff regarding the handling of HIPAA patient complaints.
2. Assist with training of new employees.

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for keeping dental instruments clean, sanitized, organized and ready for use.

#### POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

1. Minimum High School graduate or equivalent
2. Experience in a healthcare setting required
3. Dental Assistant preferred

Experience:

1. Two years prior experience

Skills and Abilities

1. Strong organizational and time management skills.
2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
3. Excellent interpersonal and telephone skills with the ability to communicate clearly and project a pleasant and professional demeanor.
4. Proficient computer skills including the use of word processing, e-mail and electronic medical/dental records software.
5. Knowledge of the health care field and dental processes and procedures.
6. Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
7. Ability to set priorities, recognize problems, inform appropriate person of problem and assist in problem resolution.
8. Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

_Essential Functions_

1. Maintains familiarity with and follows OSHA standards.
2. Ensures instruments are sterilized as soon as feasible when received into central sterilization.
3. Maintains cleanliness and order of all areas of sterilization.
4. Keeps accurate logs of spore testing.
5. Uses the system to monitor and track instruments through sterilization.
6. Keeps the Lead Sterilization Tech apprised of any issues or concerns with equipment, supplies or procedures related to sterilization.
7. Meets the needs and special requests of the providers with regard to instruments and hand pieces.
8. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team to facilitate the Dental Center’s ability to meet goals and objectives.
9. Attains goals and objectives within specified time frames.
10. Follows the Exposure Control Plans/Blood borne and Airborne Pathogens.
11. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional responsible and courteous environment.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

2. Attends meetings as required.
