Job Title: Staff Psychiatrist

Reports Directly to: Chief Medical Officer

FLSA: Exempt

Overview of Position: The main role for Psychiatrist is to diagnose, assess, and treat mental illnesses. The Psychiatrist evaluates patients for mental, emotional or behavioral disorders. The Psychiatrist diagnoses disorders, including nature and extent, and determines the appropriate course of treatment for the patient. The Psychiatrist may treat the patients by using the appropriate combination of psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, medication and hospitalization medication to help correct chemical imbalances that lead to mental disorders.

Qualifications: Completion of residency training program in psychiatry and 2 years of post –residency experience as a psychiatrist in a psychiatric facility. Possession of valid license as physician is required. Ability to skillfully diagnose and treat mentally ill patients. Ability to analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action. Knowledge of general medicine and psychiatry; current developments in the field of psychiatry; hospital and clinic organization, management and procedures.

Knowledge/Skills: Exceptional leadership skills. Ability to perform effectively in a stressful environment and handle multiple tasks. Very strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to prepare records, reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; maintain objectivity and confidentiality.

Essential Job Functions: Conducts psychiatric examinations. Makes diagnoses and prescribes therapy. Conducts individual and group psychotherapy, administers and interprets projective tests. Assists in developing and organizing behavioral health program. Directs case conferences. Serves as consultant to other clinic staff. Assists through consultation in establishing psychiatric programs and policies. Responsible for documentation of visits in the electronic medical record. Examines each patient’s medical history. Cooperates with other public health and local hospital staff. Testifies in judicial proceedings on matters concerning petitions and affidavits. Provides supervision for the behavioral health staff.

Occasional travel may be required.
