Position Description

I. REPORTS TO

Supervisor: Radiology Director

Department: Radiology

Facility: Hospital

II. EDUCATION

Must have current BLS certification.

Associates degree in radiology technology from an accredited school or two years of experience in a directly related area required.

Registered Radiologic Technologist (RT) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required.

III. DUTIES

Adherence to policies of hospital.

Available for duty in case of disaster.

Attend scheduled Inservice education meetings.

SQSS tasks performed at the Beginning and End of each shift.

Performs all other job duties as assigned.

Operates radiologic equipment to produce images required for the Radiologist to diagnose the patient.

Identifies patient services requirements by establishing a personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.

Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.

Schedule and coordinate radiology appointments for patients, including X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, ultrasounds, and mammograms. Ensure appointments are scheduled based on urgency, availability, and patient needs. Confirm appointments with patients and provide necessary pre-appointment instructions.

Work On-Call shifts as needed including weekend and evening call. Staying onsite if needed or in Alva to maintain a maximum 20 minutes call response time. Must be able to respond as soon as possible for an emergency code.

Maintaining radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; and notifying Central Supply of supply order.

Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by adhering to the 2-year CME (Continuing Medical Education) requirements.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, providing explanations of treatment, and answering questions.

Prepares patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position, and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.

Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposures factors.

Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs, such as contrast media; and administering first aid and using the emergency cart.

Maintains production and quality of radiographs by following established standards and procedures, developing radiographs, observing radiographic results, and making necessary adjustments.

Documents patient care services by charting patient and department records.

Contributes to team effort my accomplishing related results as needed.

IV. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Mostly inside work with good ventilation and comfortable temperature.

Requires mostly standing and walking and approximately 20% sitting.

Physical demands are very heavy, requiring frequent heavy lifting and carrying in excess of 75-100 lbs., frequent pushing and pulling, stooping, kneeling, etc.

Must be in good physical condition and able to assist in caring for and lifting patients whenever necessary.

V. HAZARDS
