Position Description

POSITION: Respiratory Therapist

DEPARTMENT: Respiratory Therapy

HOURS: 40 hours per week
On-call evening shifts, with rotating weekends and holidays

WAGE RANGE: $32.42 – $43.87 hourly

JOB SUMMARY:

A Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing Cardiopulmonary care services in accordance with specific physician orders, department policies and procedures. The Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system, performs diagnostic tests of the cardiovascular and pulmonary system to aid physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of heart and lung disorders.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Manage life support mechanical ventilation and non-invasive positive pressure ventilation.
* Manage artificial airways.
* Administer aerosol- bases medication.
* Administer respiratory therapy treatments including HIVINI, Vest Percussion, Hyperinflation & PEP therapy.
* Analyze blood samples to determine oxygen levels & other gases.
* Conduct Respiratory assessments and consults.
* Monitor equipment related to cardiopulmonary therapy.
* Consult with physicians to recommend changes in therapy.
* Perform Pulmonary Function tests- Pre/Post, Plethysmography, Diffusion, Methacholine Challenge, and Exercise Challenge.
* Conduct rehabilitation activities.
* Counseling in Cardiopulmonary Health- Asthma Education, Smoking Cessation etc.
* Perform Pulmonary Rehabilitation- teaching and exercise program.
* Directs treatment given by LPN’S.
* Attends C-section and other hi risk deliveries. Provides assisted breathing/CPR as needed.
* Attends & assists during intubations or codes.
* Inspect O2 tanks to ensure compliance with regulatory agency of storage and safety standards.
* Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.
* Performs FIT testing for appropriate employees.
* Call rotation after hours for emergencies etc.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program with RRT or CRT Licensure.

SKILL(S):

* Knowledge of current principles and techniques of respiratory therapy medications, treatments
* Recognizes the legal limits of respiratory therapy practice
* Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
* Ability to manage time effectively.
* Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of work experience is desirable.
