Position Description
Job Summary:
– Maintains knowledge of various methods of oxygen deliver, including the necessary equipment.
– Remains alert, assesses possible side effects to oxygen delivery.
– Administers respiratory therapy treatments, understands the purpose of each and the possible side effects associated with each. Has the ability to react to those side effects appropriately.
– Sets up and monitors mechanical ventilators and the associated critical care duties required for such treatments, such as airway management and tracheal suctioning, including troubleshooting.
– Able to assess patient for optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation. Ability to educate on modalities and make appropriate physician contact for intervention when appropriate.
– Performs arterial punctures to obtain arterial blood samples for blood as analysis, and understands the possible complications and contraindications associated with the procedure. Ability to react to these complications.
– Follows departmental equipment sterilization procedures.
– Documents all pertinent data in the patient’s medical record following completion of any service.
Skill/Educational Requirements:
– Current CRT or RRT license/certification required.
– Graduate of an AMA-approved school of respiratory therapy required.
– Successful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation certification recommended.
– ACLS certification required
– BLS certification required
